Public Social University: Media 1

  • UNA Gallery 328 Northwest Broadway #117 Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

Public Social University is excited to announce that we're partnering with Portland Ecofilm Festival to bring a free, all-ages* learning event to UNA Gallery on Earth Day 2017 (Noon-3:00PM). This event will accompany the festival’s screening of Look & See: A Portrait of Wendell Berry, which happens the previous evening at Hollywood Theater at 7:30.

For many people, it's easier than ever before to access films and other media addressing various ecological and cultural issues; but what does one do with the information that’s being presented? To become aware is one thing; but what are the next steps?

Public Social University believes in the vast potential of people getting together to discuss the media we consume, figuring out how to transform media consumption into action, and being empowered in media creation. This is part one in a new series exploring these potentials.

Media 1 will feature a discussion of the film and dynamic opportunities for participants to engage with themes of Wendell Berry’s work and Earth Day 2017 (Environmental and Climate Literacy)--and to connect with other people who are interested in exploring media in our lives and communities.

While we encourage everyone to attend the film screening, it is not a requirement for attending this free, all-ages event.

No registration is necessary, and we ask that participants arrive on-time and stay for the entire event.

If you can, please bring a short piece of writing by Wendell Berry or another writer that you feel explores similar themes.

*At this particular Public Social University event, minors must be accompanied by an adult.

We hope you can join us!
